I was driving home from work yesterday and thought I saw a dog alone in a parking lot. I kept driving but the possibility of a dog alone in the rain was on my mind the whole way home. So, I picked up my husband and insisted we drive back to see if there was actually a dog there.
About 20 minutes later, I arrived back to the parking lot, and there she was; a little Corgi who was wet, shaking and terrified. She was wearing a pink collar with tags on it so we attempted to grab her to read her tags.
Here she is in the middle of the parking lot. Just looking at this picture makes me want to cry!
Unfortunately, she was so scared that when we tried to grab her, she ran across the lot and into a thorn bush! The situation went from bad to worse and the cold rain wasn't helping!
Here she is hiding in the bush.
We climbed in and did our best to lure her out but she was terrified and my baby voices weren't enticing her. So, we went into the bank next door for help. They did not have any dog treats, but had lollipops to spare! To my dismay, baby voice + lollipop did not = rescuing dog.
It had now been about 30 minutes and bank patrons were now coming out to help. One suggested that we run to a nearby vet for help. We followed the advice and obtained a leash and real dog treats but they did not help either. This dog was terrified!
Another hour went by, and finally, with the help of a nice lady, we were able to corner her and get the poor dog out of the thorn bush. We were able to call the owners who told us her name was Reggie and she had been MIA for almost 5 hours after running away from her dog walker!
Reggie was actually in town visiting from Wisconsin while her parents were in Vegas. They were about to cancel their trip and come home because they were so worried about their little nugget! Luckily, they didn't have to.
Here is Reggie safe and warm in the back of the car.
Helping the little pooch get home safely warmed my heart so I thought I'd share. If anything ever happened to one of my pups, I would hope someone would do the same!
